To those who enjoy learning,
I believe that everyone has something to bring to the table.
This morning I had the pleasure to see 4th and 5th graders from east Oakland play in a soccer tournament. These kids wanted to win and were so supportive of each other. Their work ethic was outstanding in their desire to score. I was their for a good chunk of time and somehow tossing a rugby ball around with them and watching them play opened the door to converse with me. At that age, I was scared to speak to adults. They wanted to have fun and presented themselves with who they are.
This evening I had the pleasure to work with a woman who is younger than me. She is named after a type of pear. She has no sense of insecurities and is confident when she speaks and is able to joke around with those who she has just met. I find this to be quite refreshing to see someone who holds her own ground, is outgoing and works really hard.
The 4th and 5th graders and my co-worker reminded me of some of the beauties you see in people and that age should not matter.
Wanting to learn more from people,
My-Linh
P.S. There was a time when I would make an effort to write in my journal about what I learned that day. People say you learn something new everyday.
