Dear reader,

Just when you are having a good hair day you have to put on a bike helmet for safety.  Do you think I can still have a good hair day with helmet hair?

A bit annoyed,

To those who have created a self portrait,

Here I am!  This is my latest print that I have been working on.  The plate is slightly bigger than the image you see.  I still have some work to do on it but I love it.

My relatives say I am a spitting image of my mom and with this self portrait I see it.

Even though I am 31 years old, I still feel like I enjoy showing my mom and dad what I have done.  They come in on Thursday and I am eager to show them my self portrait.

A loving daughter,
My-Linh

P.S. I also have got the stuffed dragon's arms, legs and body ready to show my parents.

To those who pack their lunches for work,

In the morning, on the days that I have to work, I spend about 30 minutes preparing my lunch for the day.  Sometimes I wonder if this is a good thing, spending all this time at home in the kitchen.  The kitchen is where I spend the majority of my time.  The other night I read a quote by Thomas Moore.  It reads as follows:

"The ordinary acts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest."

This quote gives me some relief!  And plus I get to have an amazing lunch.  I can sense that my co-workers are jealous.

Today's lunch:

Okay, early shift snack: plain greek yogurt with blueberries and agave syrup topped with chopped pecans and crispy rice cereal.

Main dish: brown rice with ghormeh sabzi, a Persian stew and chicken herb sausage.

Sides: kale salad with grapefruit, parsley, mint, toasted sesame seeds, lemon juice and a touch of olive oil.  Snack O's which are similar to Funyuns.

Dessert: dark chocolate covered almonds and a Fuji apple.

Emergency back up if food runs out: banana chips and a chocolate chip cookie.

Always looking forward to lunch hour,
My-Linh

P.S. I hope that my roommates don't think I am crazy with all the food I cook!  Don't worry sometimes their stomachs get fed with egg sandwiches and the latest baked good.

To those who enjoy embroidery,

On Sunday, I went over to a friend's house to watch the NFL playoff games.  To be somewhat more productive I brought the arms of the stuffed dragon to work on. I got some good work done.

But it wasn't the amazing catches that I was intrigued by.  A friend who came brought a tea towel she was embroidering.  I fell in love with it.  Last year one of my New Year's resolution was to learn how to embroider.  I did none of that and here my friend was unintentionally reminding me of a looming project.

Yes, one project at a time.  I have to finish this dragon soon.  My parents are coming in a couple of weeks and I want to show my Dad how much progress I have made.

I have read that I need to pay more attention to what's happening in my life and when I am drawn to ideas and experiences.  I am trying to be more aware and a future project will include embroidery.  I can't wait.

One stitch at a time,
My-Linh

To those who enjoy a day off,

What a nice treat, I had the day off today!  It's a weekday so all of my friends are working.  This means that I have the whole day to myself.

Like every morning, I cook myself up a breakfast.  I had one fried egg, a yesterday's fourth of a roast beef sandwich and a small bowl of cottage cheese topped Hawaiian pineapple complimented with a cup of rose white tea with milk and honey and a glass of watered down orange juice.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to do something fun and/or different on my days off.

Got my haircut and I look like Dora the Explorer even more.

Next, I drove to Tilden park on an almost empty tank of gas.  It was a cold and gloriously sunny day.  I hiked for about an hour and twelve minutes.  Of course, I timed it on my stop watch.  It's enjoyable to see how long I hike for.  I attempted to meditate while I was hiking.  I am not sure if I was successful.  I met Martin from Oaxaca, Mexico on the hike.  He hikes twice a week on a steep mountain.  He was an elderly man wondering if he had seen me hiking before.   I snacked on a tangerine, Swiss cheese and honey nut O's and drank some water.

Came home for refueling!  I ate tuna and mac and cheese.

I wanted to continue the day and prepped my bike up which has been having problems.  I rode off to Modern Coffee which is connected to the Tribune Tower building.  I had a delicious decaf latte coffee with raw sugar.  I wrote two letters and listened to the hustle and bustle of the coffee shop.  The decor was elegant with a twist of industrial modernism.  Anyway, on my way home the bike was back to normal for now.

I decided to head home at 4:15pm with a stop to the grocery store for some soup ingredients.  I enjoy being at home cooking and relaxing.

For dinner, I ate my soup with some toasted cranberry walnut bread!  The soup ingredients included hot Italian sausage, great northern beans, kaleidoscope chard, brown rice, crimini mushrooms and chicken based broth.  The soup needed something more so I went to my neighbor's house and stole three lemons.  I only used one and will use the others for something else.

I still have more to the evening and I am not sure what I will do.

Loving today,
My-Linh

P.S. I am sad that the Vikings did not beat the Packers.  I am cheering for the Packers to make it to the Superbowl.
